<p>In Ethiopia, soybean was recently challenged by insects during storage. In order to overcome this problem, designing management methods was a top priority. However, no information about the pest was available. The study was conducted in the Jimma Agricultural Research Center laboratory during the year 2023/2024 to determine the nutritional, viability, vigor, and weight loss that occurred in soybeans due to bruchid attacks during storage. The treatment involved storing soybean in traditional bags (woven polypropylene bags) with fumigants (aluminum phosphine tablets) and without fumigants for six months. For the vigor test, both bruchid-attacked and bruchid-free soybeans were subjected to stress conditions. The experiment followed a completely randomized design with three replications. After six months of storage, soybeans stored in traditional bags and traditional bags with fumigants lost 24.61% and 4.61% of their weight, respectively. The viability of soybeans before storage was 88%, but after six months, the percentage decreased to 70% and 26% for soybeans with fumigants and without fumigants, respectively. The oil content of soybeans was 19%, 12.45% and 16.08% for soybeans before storage, without fumigants and with fumigants, respectively. The protein content of soybeans was 36%, 23.50% and 25.50% for soybeans before storage, without fumigants and with fumigants, respectively. Soybean germination decreased when subjected to stress conditions, with vigor and germination percentages lower for the accelerated aging test compared to the cold germination test. Storing soybeans for six months reduced their quality, viability, vigor, and weight due to bruchid attacks. Producers must be aware of managing soybean storage insect pests using different modern storage technologies and fumigation methods.</p>
