Enhancing energy efficiency and signal integrity in power and radio over fiber networks: a comprehensive review
摘要
The combination of Power over Fiber (PoF) and Radio over Fiber (RoF) technologies creates a strategic solution for next-generation communication networks that require high-speed transmission, high capacity, and efficient energy utilization. This study examines ways to optimize network energy consumption and signalling fidelity specifically aimed at enhancing long-haul Fiber-optic transmission. The study evaluates the impact of Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS), a nonlinear optical effect, on PoF and RoF signal transmission. To address resulting performance challenges, this research aims to demonstrate that the integration of Hollow Core Fibers (HCFs) and Multicore Fibers (MCFs), improves network functionality by reducing signal degradation and enhancing transmission efficiency. The analysis of experimental studies demonstrates that optimized Fiber selection combined with appropriate modulation techniques can lower power consumption while preserving signal quality. This was established through tests of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), as well as energy efficiency and system reliability measurements. However, challenges remain in terms of scalability, scope of hybrid fibres, and cost. This research proposes that these issues will not be solved until real-world deployment of these technologies commences.
