摘要

Purpose

This paper studies the active control of cable vibration using piezoelectric actuators under strong electric fields.

Methods

Considering the nonlinear behavior of piezoelectric materials under strong electric fields, the actuating force formula of piezoelectric actuators is deduced. Then we derive the dynamic model of cable taking account of von Kármán type nonlinearity and sag. Afterwards, the accuracy of the nonlinear model considering strong electric fields is verified by finite element software (COMSOL). Finally, active vibration control is achieved based on the velocity feedback control algorithm and the effect of strong electric fields on active vibration control is investigated.

Results

The predicted strain without considering the strong electric field is 57.52% less than the finite element software results for a voltage of 500 V. Meanwhile, the prediction root mean square (RMS) displacements and RMS control voltages deviation of active vibration control without considering strong electric fields will be more than 18% when the amplitude of the vibration displacement is 0.05 of the cable radius and the needed peak value of the control voltage is approximately 300 V.

Conclusions

The model developed in this study can provide guidance for vibration control of flexible cables by piezoelectric actuators under strong electric fields.
