Self-Help Groups in Enriching Women’s Empowerment: A Bibliometric Synergy and Case-Based Perspective from Assam
摘要
This study delves into the transformative potential of self-help groups (SHGs) in advancing women’s empowerment and driving social change. The research adopts a dual approach by first exploring the broader implications of self-help groups in advancing women’s empowerment and socioeconomic development across diverse contexts. Building on this, a case study in the Kathiatoli Development Block, Nagaon District, Assam, provides micro-level insights, illustrating how regional dynamics interplay with the overarching impact of SHGs, thereby connecting localized experiences with broader developmental trends. The findings reveal that SHGs significantly enhance the economic status and satisfaction levels of rural women by facilitating financial inclusion and fostering social capital. Furthermore, SHG involvement has bolstered women’s confidence, enabling greater participation in household decision-making and improving their societal standing. Despite these achievements, the study highlights persistent challenges related to financial accessibility and socio-economic disparities within the region. Concluding that SHGs are pivotal to rural women’s development, the research underscores the necessity for targeted policies and further interdisciplinary studies to optimize the impact of SHGs on empowerment. Recommendations include increased government support, tailored financial programs, and enhanced capacity-building initiatives to ensure sustainable progress.
