The Effectiveness of Ragas (Indian Classical Music) in Stress Management (an Experimental Study on Early Adults)
摘要
Stress is the biggest threat to the future of Human Health. Music is a potential for stress management. Research says that ragas (Indian Classical Music) also have some medicinal power to treat psychological and physical problems. To understand the effectiveness of ragas in stress management in early adults, this experimental study was conducted with sixty college-going students. The main goal was to understand the effectiveness of listening to the different Instrumental Ragas at least thirty minutes per day. Pre-post experimental research design was carried out in this research. Raga was provided to the participants to listen for twenty-six days and the stress level was measured with the help of self-reported ‘perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14)’. The analysis was done in SPSS using descriptive statistics and a t-test was carried out. A significant improvement in stress was observed in the post-intervention test results as compared to the pre-test. The findings of this study clearly indicate that Ragas has the power to manage stress. Music intervention can provide a great contribution to the Health Care Services, especially in the Mental Health Sector. There is no doubt about a strong connection existing between music and mental health.
