Placemaking Strategies in Urban Gated Communities: A Case Study of Mumbai and Pune
摘要
In the ever-evolving urban landscape, high-rise gated communities have become prominent features, significantly shaping the lives of their inhabitants. They have become integral components of the city fabric, characterized by heightened security, shared amenities, and a sense of inclusivity. Within the confines of these towering structures lies a crucial aspect that influences residents’ experiences – placemaking strategies. Placemaking is the process of transforming spaces into inviting and functional places. It refers to the deliberate planning and design of public spaces to promote community interaction, social cohesion, and a sense of place. It has, thus, become a pivotal consideration in high-rise design and architecture. This research delves into the realm of placemaking strategies within urban constructs, adopting a qualitative method of study to assess the multifaceted dimensions of placemaking in high -rise dwellings and establish their correlation with residential satisfaction. Through a comprehensive spatial analysis, surveys, interviews, and observational data, of the selected gated communities in Pune and Mumbai, the research seeks to identify commonalities and disparities in placemaking strategies and highlight the importance of architectural design in enhancing the effectiveness of placemaking interventions and their impact on enhancing the overall quality of life and residential satisfaction within these communities.
