Physical Visualization for the Well-Being of the Hearing Impaired – A DMAIC Methodical Approach

摘要

The hearing impaired section of the society requires immediate concern and attention for a sustained livelihood and well-being. The present need of this work is to focus on the betterment of the hearing impaired section of the society. Applicatory principles of the spatial visualization integrated with statistical analysis through the DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) phases are employed in this work. Vocational training for the hearing impaired through spatial visualization (SV) based skills is tried and tested through Computer Aided Design (CAD) platform as a pilot scale case study based in rural India. The SV skills supplement the existing mode of sign language and give an advantage of imaginative and creative aspect of thinking skills amongst the hearing impaired. Based on the learnt SV skills, training is imparted to the hearing impaired in five vocational training courses namely, pottery, newspaper type setting, carpentry design, tailoring design and fabric painting. ANOVA analysis is done on the marks scored by the hearing impaired students in these vocational training courses. It is deduced that influence of pre-training of students in spatial visualization has maximum influence on courses such as tailoring design, fabric painting and pottery. Though all the courses are promoted, the tailoring design is largely benefitted by the pre-training of students in spatial visualization skills. Thus, in this work, spatial visualization is innovatively applied as a futuristic societal approach towards generating livelihood for the hearing impaired section of the society.
