Bronchogenic Cyst with Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Palsy—A Case Report

Bronchogenic cysts are congenital cystic lesions arising as aberrant budding from primordial lung buds in the early stage of foregut development with a worldwide prevalence of 6%. The majority of cysts are symptomless, unless the cyst is enlarging and imparting its compressive effects to nearby mediastinal structures causing chest pain, dyspnea, cough, stridor, etc. Here, we report a rare case of a 61-year-old female who developed an unusual complication of left recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy due to the compressive effect of the mediastinal bronchogenic cyst, resulting in left vocal cord paralysis. This case puts light on the unusual complication of recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy in a bronchogenic mediastinal cyst and its management.
