Witnessing Workplace Bullying: Burnout, and the Mediating Role of Work-Personal Life Conflict
摘要
This study investigated workplace bullying (WB) as witnessed by healthcare workers and its effects on burnout, and subsequently tested the mediating role of work- personal life conflict in this relationship. Data were collected from 222 workers in the medical-healthcare sector in Cameroon. Results from mediation analyses indicated that work- personal life conflict played a mediating role between WB observed by witnesses and the three dimensions of burnout (emotional, physical and cognitive). Our results highlighted the necessity of deploying preventive measures aimed at offering support to healthcare workers witnessing WB as well as assistance in managing work- personal life conflict to avoid burnout. This study contributes to the sparse literature on witnesses of WB and offers valuable insight into the mechanisms liable to explain how WB can undermine witnesses’ psychological health.
