Survey on common scab of potato caused by Streptomyces spp. in North Gujarat, India
摘要
Potato botanically known as Solanum tuberosum L., a member of nightshade family stands as one of the important cash crop in Indian economy. It has severe infestation of various diseases and pests. Among these, common scab, caused by Streptomyces spp., represents a significant disease that diminishes the market value and price of potato tubers. The survey was conducted to document the incidence and intensity of common scab in key potato-producing areas of northern part of the Gujarat during the potato harvest seasons of 2021-22 and 2022-23. A total of 105 farmers of four potato growing districts were surveyed and 315 samples were examined for comprehensive study providing insights into the distribution and impact of the disease across these regions. Highest disease incidence of 33.43 per cent with a severity of 33.02 per cent was observed in Banaskantha followed by Aravalli (14.18% and 17.19%), respectively. While, Sabarkantha district reported the lowest incidence and severity of common scab. The whisker plot analysis showed larger variations for disease incidence in Banaskantha district than other districts having a greater variation for the disease incidence. The median of Aravalli district is lower than its mean value suggesting data are positively skewed meaning few farmers are facing higher disease incidence of the scab and most farmers have low disease incidence While, for other districts showed symmetry in disease incidence across the area. The Gandhinagar and Sabarkantha district depicted similar box size in the both years indicating more or less similar per cent disease incidences.
