摘要

The extensive use of non-biodegradable plastic bags in oyster mushroom cultivation raises environmental concerns in the ecologically fragile North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region of India. An eco-friendly bamboo basket–based cultivation system was developed for white oyster mushroom (Pleurotus florida) and evaluated in comparison with the conventional polythene bag method. Baskets prepared from Bambusa nutans, lined with pasteurized banana leaves and filled with 1.5 kg pasteurized paddy straw at a 10% spawn rate, achieved complete mycelial colonization within 12 days and the first harvest by 21 days under 22–25 °C temperature and 85–95% relative humidity. Three flushes were harvested within 38 days, recording a biological efficiency of 120%, which was higher than that obtained with polythene bag cultivation (98.33%). Reusable bamboo baskets reduced production costs and generated higher net returns with a cost–benefit ratio of 1:12.19, demonstrating a sustainable and plastic-free alternative foro yster mushroom cultivation.
