Management strategies for stem rot of berseem caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum lib. De Bary using bio-based products

Berseem, a popular fodder crop, is significantly affected by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum Lib. de Bary, which causes stem rot disease. In this study, four native botanicals along with five organic and natural products were evaluated for their effectiveness against this pathogen under both in-vitro and pot experiments. Botanical extracts of Eucalyptus camaldulensis (aqueous) and Melia azedarach (alcoholic) showed maximum mycelial growth inhibition i.e. 15.93 and 39.26 per cent, respectively at 50 per cent concentration. Whereas, among organic and natural inputs, panchgavya (65.50%) and brahmastra (70.70%), respectively, were found most significant at 25 per cent concentration. The inputs were then evaluated in pots for their efficacy against stem rot, where the extract of E. adenophorum showed maximum disease reduction (23.48%). Additionally, the organic and natural products panchgavya and brahmastra showed 48.74% and 45.09% disease control, respectively.
