<p>Summer squash (<i>Cucurbita pepo</i> L.) is an important vegetable crop in Himachal Pradesh, especially in the dry temperate regions of Lahaul and Spiti, where it is grown as an off-season vegetable. The crop is highly susceptible to powdery mildew majorly caused by <i>Podosphaera xanthii</i> which can significantly reduce yield and degrade fruit quality. A survey conducted during the 2023 and 2024 cropping seasons in 21 villages across Lahaul and Spiti recorded disease severity, with the overall severity exceeding 60 per cent in both years. Udaipur recorded the highest overall severity (87.5%), while Keylong had the lowest (52.5%). The variation in disease severity was influenced by local climatic conditions, crop management practices and plant variety susceptibility. This study highlights the growing concern of powdery mildew and underscores the need for timely disease management strategies, including early detection, monitoring and the adoption of resistant varieties. The findings aim to provide valuable insights for researchers and farmers, helping to protect summer squash crops and enhance agricultural productivity in these vulnerable regions.</p>
