<p>Novel fruit crop cultivation is increasing globally due to its economic potential. One of the novel crops is dragon fruit, which is a cactus type and widespread in tropical and subtropical regions. Since it is a novel fruit crop, new diseases are known to occur. Hence, a survey was conducted in the dragon fruit orchards of Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram districts in Kerala. During the survey, dragon fruit orchards were significantly affected by the stem canker disease. The disease was isolated and characterized culturally, morphologically, and molecularly. Microscopic characters showed hyphae were brown, branched, septate, and had constricted into spore chains before disarticulation into arthroconidia. The disease was identified as being caused by <i>Neoscytalidium lignicola</i>. as a stem canker of dragon fruit by molecular confirmation. Furthermore, the pathogenicity tests confirmed the fungus <i>N. lignicola</i> as the causal agent of stem canker of pitaya (<i>Hylocereus undatus)</i> in Kerala.</p>
