While both plant and animal immune systems recognize and respond to pathogens, humans possess adaptive immunity in addition to innate immunity, whereas plants rely solely on innate immunity and lack circulating immune cells. A recent case in India of a 61-year-old man infected with <i>Chondrostereum purpureum</i>, a plant pathogen typically affecting the rose family, has drawn attention from both agricultural and medical researchers. This case highlights the need for further investigation into phytonoses, particularly in immunocompromised individuals, and calls for collaboration between plant pathology and medical sciences to address this emerging issue.</p>
