摘要

A characteristic false smut was noticed on Phoenix sp. present in Marina Park, Port Blair, and Campbell Bay, Andaman and Nicobar Islands (ANI). A detailed microscopic examination and scanning electron microscopy revealed the identity of the fungus as Graphiola phoenicis. Further, the ITS-rDNA region sequence obtained in the present study, which showed > 99% sequence similarity in nBLAST analysis and phylogenetic analysis, also showed that the false smut fungus shared a common clade with known reference sequences. Therefore, we confirm the identity of the fungus obtained from Phoenix sp. as Graphiola phoenicis. To our knowledge, this is the first report of G. phoenicis associated with Phoenix species from Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
