Screening of commercial guava (Psidium guajava L.) varieties against anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and evaluation of related biochemical characters of varieties
摘要
Ten guava varieties viz; Allahabad Safeda, L-49, Shweta, Punjab Apple guava, Punjab Safeda, Punjab Pink, Punjab Kiran, Arka Kiran, Hisar Safeda and Hisar Surkha were evaluated for their reaction to anthracnose disease. Screening of the varieties done on the basis of Percent Disease Index revealed that the varieties Punjab Apple guava, Punjab Pink, Punjab Kiran and Punjab Safeda were susceptible and varieties Shweta and Arka Kiran as moderately susceptible to the disease. The varieties rated as highly susceptible were Allahabad Safeda, L-49, Hisar Surkha and Hisar Safeda. The physio-biochemical marker traits of the infected and healthy fruit peels recorded at green immature, mature and fully ripe fruit stage revealed that total chlorophylls, carotenoid, total soluble sugars, total soluble proteins, proline, free amino acids, peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activities were high in the susceptible group and low in the highly susceptible group. However, the MDA, hydrogen peroxide, organic acid and salicylic acid content was higher in the highly susceptible group, and minimum in the susceptible group. The study suggests development of an effective management strategy based on the genetic expression of the marker traits analysed for disease tolerance.
