摘要

Paying attention to gender inclusion in STEM classrooms is important if we are to see a continued increase in young women choosing to pursue STEM-related skill development, post-secondary education, and eventual careers. In this article, we propose a conceptual framework for a Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) collective identity by analyzing factors meant to increase the interest and engagement of adolescent girls. We focus on factors supported by previous research that contribute to a strong STEM identity. Applying the collective STEM identity framework to two research studies, we identify multiple factors influencing identity formation and discuss how a collective framework offers a more holistic approach to understanding the formation of strong individual STEM identities of adolescent girls.
