<p>In this 25th anniversary commentary, I reflect on my article published in CJSMTE more than 20 years ago. Engaging in this reflection prompted me to think about the time that has since passed and to ask the questions of where are <i>they</i> now—my participants and the scholars I cited in that article—and where am <i>I</i> now—an educational researcher launched into her career through this significant “first” publication. In this commentary, I provide background context on the published article and the focus of my work back in the days of completing my dissertation and seeking out opportunities to publish. I reflect on my experience with arts-based research, my approach to researching and writing my dissertation, the scholars influencing my work (and with whom I was smitten) in those days, and how I came to publish in CJSMTE. Following this, I step into the present, where I reflect on how my scholarly work has taken a more linear (re)turn, but with those early days of writing and publishing in CJSMTE still noticeably shaping my current work in intimate scholarship and self-study methodologies.</p>

摘要

In this 25th anniversary commentary, I reflect on my article published in CJSMTE more than 20 years ago.
