摘要

Organic synthesis has pushed for more nature friendly synthetic techniques towards the development of organic valuable heterocycles. Among organic heterocycles, carbazole scaffolds has irreplaceable place owing to its wide array of applications. With medical and other promise, carbazoles are preferred organic compounds employed in identification of lead structures like Carvediol, Ellipticine, Celiptium, Carbazomycin B and Murrayanine. Reported literature revealed that ionic liquids work efficiently to afford the synthesis of carbazole and its analogues. Ionic liquids-assisted approaches provide alternative route to access carbazole derivatives as compared to conventional methods. Ionic liquids-promoted strategies engage with several benefits like short reaction times, solvent-free reaction, high yields and reusability. The present review summarizes first report on ionic liquids-catalyzed/solvated synthetic methods to deliver a diversified library of carbazole and its derivatives.
