MoS2/BiOI heterojunction photocatalyst for degradation of malachite green under visible light
摘要
The strategic design of heterojunction photocatalysts has garnered remarkable attention for removing organic contaminants from wastewater, which is essential for environmental protection. In this work, we demonstrate a facile hydrothermal synthesis of MoS2/BiOI that act as photocatalysts for the degradation of malachite green (MG) under visible light irradiation. To improve the photocatalytic activity by increasing the BiOI on the surface of MoS2 nanosheets. Under visible light, MB-25 composite reached up to 93.8% degradation efficiency, exhibiting higher photocatalytic activity compared to bare MoS2, BiOI, and other composites due to improved affinity of active edge sites, high porosity, highly efficient charge separation, optimum band gap, photogenerated O2•‒, and enhances the adsorbing capability of MG. Additionally, the photocatalyst shows excellent photostability and reusability during the photodegradation process, suggesting that the MoS2/BiOI could be a better candidate for water purification. Thus, MoS2/BiOI can be utilized for the photocatalytic degradation mainly beneficial for environmental remediation.
