Efficient photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline antibiotic and melachite green dye using La-BDC MOFs

The effective removal of harmful water pollutants was achieved with the help of hydrothermally synthesized UV-light-activated La-BDC MOF material. The chemical, morphology, and thermal properties of the synthesized catalysts were examined using a range of cutting-edge techniques. As per the FESEM images, the structure of La-BDC MOFs resembled a banana bunch-like morphology. Since their discharge into water contaminates potable water, it is well known that the usage of antibiotics and organic dyes has been growing progressively. The development of a successful removal technique for these hazardous contaminants is crucial. In the presence of UV light, the capability of synthetic MOF to remove the antibiotic tetracycline (TC) and the malachite green (MG) dye from wastewater was investigated. Experiments were conducted to observe variations in the target pollutant’s concentration over time and to recognize the intermediates produced throughout the deterioration reaction using a UV–visible spectrophotometer as well as the LC–MS method. Approximately, 96% of TC and 97% of MG were degraded in 60 min with rate constant values of 0.0543 min−1 and 0.0637 min−1, respectively. Further, the role of scavengers in the photodegradation process has also been investigated. Exceptional photocatalytic activity was sustained for five straight cycles, according to reusability experiments. These findings supported the fabrication of an excellent UV light-activated MOF for wastewater contaminant elimination.
