<p>Driftwood blockages can significantly deteriorate the discharge performance of Piano Key Weirs (PKWs), and even directly affect their safe and efficient operation. In this study, a large-scale physical model test of a PKW with 1 800 experimental runs was conducted, examining the effects of the driftwood diameter, the driftwood length and the weir head of PKWs on the blockages. Furthermore, an empirical formula was developed to estimate the blockage probability caused by individual driftwood pieces passing through a PKW.</p>
