<p>This paper examines two previously understudied vernacular texts from colonial Kerala that codified caste-based ritual practices: <i>Śauṇḍikolpaṭṭi</i> and <i>Nāyarjātyācāravidhi</i>. These texts, composed during a period of profound social transformation in late nineteenth and early twentieth century Kerala, represent significant attempts to systematize and document the ritual traditions of the <i>Ezhava</i> and <i>Nair</i> communities respectively. Through close textual analysis and historical contextualization, this study demonstrates how these canonical works operated as instruments of social legitimation and ritual standardization, reflecting broader patterns of caste identity consolidation and social reform movements in colonial Kerala.</p>
