Despite advancements in assisted reproductive techniques, the success rate is limited. The pregnancy rate in Austria in 2022 was 22.2% per follicle puncture and 34.9% per embryo transfer. Besides treatment with Chinese herbs, acupuncture has emerged as a complementary approach in the management of infertile couples. It has become more and more popular, but its effectiveness is controversial. Recent studies have shown that acupuncture in addition to assisted reproductive techniques significantly improved the implantation rate, the clinical and biochemical pregnancy rate and the live birth rate.
