摘要

India is a leading country in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and pepper (Capsicum spp.) production, worldwide. However, these are vulnerable to various biotic stresses, with bacterial leaf spot (BLS) disease being an emerging disease in India. The four main lineages: Xanthomonas euvesicatoria (X. euvesicatoria pv. euvesicatoria), X. vesicatoria, X. perforans (X. euvesicatoria pv. perforans), and X. gardneri elicit BLS disease in tomato and pepper. Prevalence of BLS- Xanthomonas highlighted in survey in commercial tomato and pepper cultivars in the fields of nine states of India in May – October (2019–2022). The BLS disease incidence was recorded ranging from 20.49 to 62.15% depending on the tomato and pepper cultivars, and agro-climatic conditions. All BLS–Xanthomonad isolates were pathogenic on tomato cv. Pusa Ruby while 67 isolates (84.81%) were found pathogenic to chilli cv. Pusa Jwala under controlled conditions (Relative humidity: 90–95%, temperature: 25–30 °C, and exposure to 1000 lx light for 12 h) at the National Phytotron Facility, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi. Three lineages of Xanthomonas causing BLS disease were identified and among them, 83.55% isolates belonged to X. euvesicatoria pv. euvesicatoria followed by X. vesicatoria (7.5%), and X. euvesicatoria pv. perforans (7.5%). However, it was the best of our knowledge that X. euvesicatoria pv. perforans was first-time report from Northern and central part of India. This study highlights further in-depth investigation on occurrence and diversity analysis of BLS- Xanthomonas species in India.
