摘要

Construction and demolition waste congests landfills, prompting the need for sustainable solutions like recycling concrete. This study investigates the use of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) as substitutes for natural aggregates in concrete paving blocks, reflecting a circular economy approach. Various RCA replacement levels (0%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% for coarse aggregates, and a constant 40% for fine aggregates) are analyzed for mechanical properties (compressive, splitting tensile, and flexural strength) and durability (water absorption, skid resistance) in complying the paver block requirements. Hybrid treatment RCA combines chemical and mechanical approaches through soaking in 1% hydrochloric acid and a two-stage mixing process shows effectiveness in improving RCA properties. Treated recycled coarse aggregate (TRCA) demonstrated improved properties, with a reduction of absorption rate by 0.67% and an improved specific gravity by 6% compared to untreated RCA. Concrete mixes with 40% TRCA and recycled fine aggregate (RCFA) met BS EN1338 (2003) and IS 15658:2006 standards, achieving a compressive strength of 51.07 MPa which meets minimum requirement of paver block application. The study suggests RCA is a viable option for eco-friendly paving blocks.
