Seismic response control of RC structure using U- shape damper as isolator
摘要
Understanding and control of underground vibration generated from dynamic events such as blasts and earthquakes are needed. Base isolation used in earthquake engineering to improve response of structure against seismic vibration. Recent advancements in base isolation have proven effective at mitigating blast-induced vibrations, expanding its applicability beyond seismic events. This study evaluates the response of a 6-story RC building structure using U-shaped dampers as an isolator considering dynamic excitations such as blast-induced underground vibrations and seismic events via SAP2000. Nonlinear dynamic analysis was conducted to assess the acceleration, story drift, and base shear responses; seismic scenarios taken from ATC-40; and data on blast-induced ground vibrations found in the body of the current literature. By comparing the responses under blast and seismic circumstances to those of a fixed base structure, the efficacy of U-shaped base isolation is assessed. This study assessed the effectiveness of base isolation by comparing structural responses with and without isolators, and revealed significant differences. The results demonstrate a considerable reduction in response quantities, minimizing structural damage in U-shaped isolation systems under both blast and seismic loading conditions.
