<p>In soybean production systems, farmers use herbicides to desiccate the soybeans and standardize harvests. However, there are few products commercially available in Brazil for this purpose. The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficacy of florpyrauxifen-benzyl compared to that of glufosinate and diquat for preharvest soybean desiccation. Also, identify the safest and most efficient dose of florpyrauxifen-benzyl, as well as the phenological stage of the crop, for preharvest soybean desiccation without affecting yield and other characters related to agronomic performance. Florpyrauxifen-benzyl was applied at stages R<sub>6.5</sub>, R<sub>7.1</sub> and R<sub>7.2</sub>, and glufosinate and diquat were applied at stages R<sub>6.5</sub>, R<sub>7.1,</sub> R<sub>7.2</sub> and R<sub>7.3</sub>. The percentages of defoliation and green stems, interval between application and harvest, seed moisture and thousand-grain weight, yield, percentages of rotten pods, rotten seeds and green seeds were evaluated. Faster defoliation was observed in soybean after diquat application, and greater deleterious effects were observed for pods, seeds and yield after diquat and glufosinate application, especially when application occurred in early stages. Florpyrauxifen-benzyl did not increase the rotten pods or rotten or green seeds. This herbicide was effective in preharvest desiccation, especially when applied at the R<sub>7.1</sub> stage and at a dose of 2.5&#xa0;g a.i. ha<sup>− 1</sup> or more. Diquat and glufosinate are effective for preharvest desiccation but had deleterious effects at yield when applied prior to the R<sub>7.3</sub> and R<sub>7.2</sub> stages, respectively. Florpyrauxifen-benzyl was safe at all stages, and is suitable for preharvest soybean desiccation, with less risk to grain yield compared to diquat and glufosinate.</p>
