Redefining “Connection” on Par with Far-Fetched Scientific Inventions: What is Linked and Who Remains Attached?

Advancements in science and technology are aimed at improving human life. The impact of these innovative ideas and inventions on human life is significant and studies are needed to determine the connections between natural science and their effects on social beings. Fictional works that incorporate future expectations and enable individuals to foresee the future provide valuable contributions to the study of multiple arenas related to human existence. Kim Fu’s “Twenty Hours”, a short story published in the collection, Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century (Lesser known monsters of the 21st Century, Tin House, 2022) is chosen to study the changes in personality that could occur while embracing science without questioning the aftereffects. The literature and its novelty make the fictional works prophetic in several instances. The paper comments on transhumanist thought through literary fiction and elaborate on the potential of imagination to gain insights into scientific inventions. One of the objectives is to comprehend the relevance of studying science via the lens of humanities. The second objective is to focus on the significance of imagination and its role in anticipating the future. This paper also discusses dating apps, porn sites and other scientific inventions that can threaten human connections. It also studies the representation of the natural world by making constant comments on the landscape, weather and climatic changes and how human emotions are intertwined with these environmental factors. With a transhumanist approach, the meaning of value and human connections are analyzed in an environment that is dominated by commodity fetishism, scientific developments and constantly changing perspectives of life. It concludes with the proposition that every individual encounters a similar situation in a distinct manner; therefore, encountering problems or solving them is also individualistic.
