Rethinking Metaphors: A Dialogical Exploration
摘要
This review reflects upon scientific metaphors in the context of social and psychological sciences. The book “Re-Inventing Organic Metaphors for the Social Sciences” addresses the epistemological need to develop new models capable of comprehending human phenomena that are inherently complex and dynamic. To do so, they propose the integration of organic metaphors in these fields that, contrary to their inorganic counterparts, can better match the complexity of embodied experience. The book is divided into three sections and incorporates a dialogue sequence in each chapter, fostering an open-ended exchange of ideas among authors. The present review echoes the same dialogical spirit as it explores the proposed ideas of organic metaphors while also addressing potential avenues and challenges in communicating these ideas to a broader audience. It stresses the value of the coconstruction of knowledge and considers local realities and interpretations in scientific endeavors, such as elaborating metaphors. Readers are invited to expand their imagination and contemplate the new insights that organic metaphors can offer.
