摘要

In this précis of my book Klasse. Die Entstehung von Oben und Unten, I give a brief overview over its central claims and arguments. Class, on my account, is a form of socially constructed scarcity generated by status competition with hard-to-fake social signals. I explain why status competition exists, what is evolutionary rationale is, spell out some of the main ideas behind the “costly” signalling framework for understanding class hierarchy I develop and try to explain why class inequality, despite being an injustice, is very hard to get rid of.
