ChordC: a mobile anchor trajectory for localization in wireless sensor networks

Sensors in the vicinity of a moving anchor may compute their locations using beacon messages received from the anchor. The trajectory of the anchor plays a significant role in enabling sensors to compute their locations. In this paper, we propose and analyze a trajectory where an anchor moves along the chords of a circular region of deployment of a wireless sensor network. During the analysis, we focus on the distance traversed by the anchor to cover a circular region of deployment. We analyze the impact of the transmission range of the anchor and the radius of the region of deployment. We observe that the proposed trajectory performs better than the existing trajectories in terms of the distance traversed by the anchor, the number of beacons transmitted, the energy consumed in transmissions of beacon messages, and the localizability of sensors in the network.
