Policy Considerations for Elevating the Capacity of Australian Community Sport Clubs in Building Social Capital and Promoting Social Cohesion in Rural Settings
摘要
Community sport plays a pivotal role in rural settings in fostering social cohesion and creating social capital by providing opportunities for individuals to engage in physical activity and public interaction. Further, community sport activities help reduce social barriers, promote inclusivity, and lessen public inequalities in often diverse and isolated communities. This research examined the increasingly important role of community sport clubs in promoting social cohesion and developing social capital in the Australian rural context. Based on a narrative literature review research methodology, the study integrated Social Capital theory to help understand the impact of community sport on social capital, highlight the significance of communal networks, and encourage greater social cohesion. The observations from the literature reveal that, increasingly, Australian community sport clubs have an important role in the development of social cohesion and social capital. The contribution of the research was to increase the understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of social capital and the significance of community sport in promoting social cohesion. Overall, from a policy perspective, establishing avenues for increasing the influence and capacity of community sport clubs in rural environments is essential to building stronger, more inclusive communities.
