<p>Critical leisure studies is noteworthy in bringing equality and inclusion to all the people. However, for the regions where leisure studies just became emergent, this turn is not yet observable. This article is an attempt to raise the awareness of critical leisure studies in the non-western context. A critical look of leisure was provided with the epidemiological investigation of COVID-19 in China as an example. The purpose is to highlight the seriousness of the work-leisure balance problem for not a few people in the developing and underdeveloped countries and regions, a problem not resolved yet often neglected. It is argued that the neglect of this kind of situation in leisure research is unjustified in the non-western context and the guarantee of objective nonworking time is the prerequisite for people to develop leisure.</p>
