<p>Lakes and reservoirs are vital for maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity. The Fincha subbasin in Ethiopia has experienced increasing water demand, exerting pressure on Fincha Lake. This study evaluated the spatiotemporal dynamics of water resources in Fincha Lake using remote-sensing data. Four indices, namely, the automatic water extraction index (AWEI), water ratio index (WRI), modified normalized difference water index (MNDWI), and normalized difference water index (NDWI), were applied to analyze variations in the lake area. The findings revealed that the surface area of Fincha Lake increased from 182.13 km<sup>2</sup> in 1990 to 190.08 km<sup>2</sup> in 2022, indicating gradual expansion despite rising water demand. The annual variations in surface area ranged from 2.29% to 13.81% (NDWI) and from 3.94% to 12.47% (WRI). These trends suggest that while the lake has expanded, the pressure of land use change poses future risks to its ecological health. Integrated watershed management and sustainable water resource practices must be implemented to safeguard the ecohydrology of Fincha Lake. Addressing critical data gaps in data-poor regions using remote sensing techniques is vital for informing policy decisions.</p>
