Measuring the Environmental Quality of Life Using Remote Sensing Products and Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Case Study: Mashhad City)

Today, the rapid growth of population and urbanization has caused different levels of quality of life in the regions of a city. The purpose of this research was to measure the quality of life from the environmental point of view in 13 regions and 34 districts of Mashhad city. By integrating spatial indicators, remote sensing products and multi-criteria decision-making method, the environmental quality of life in Mashhad city was evaluated. First, sub-criteria and indicators were defined, then by preparing, pre-processing, and analyzing data, the maps of air pollutants, type of vegetation, air temperature, and waste production were extracted. By applying the fuzzy AHP decision-making method to weight the criteria and indicators in the ArcGIS, the environmental quality of life was obtained for the districts and regions of Mashhad city. Results of this research showed that areas such as Region 5, Samen, District 3 of Region 4, and District 1 of Region 12 have the highest environmental quality due to the low effects of pollutants and waste. Moreover, Regions 1, 6, and 8 and Districts 1 and 3 of Region 7, Districts 1 and 2 of Region 4, and District 2 of Region 12 have an average level of the quality of life.
