摘要

In the 1980s I founded together with several obstetricians and midwives an institution in Vienna for out of hospital obstetrics: the Birthing Center Nussdorf. In the nearly 17 years approximately 4000 children were born there with good clinical results with respect to maternal mortality and morbidity and in particular low intervention rates. The Birthing Center Nussdorf was closed in 2002 as no economically viable future perspectives were recognizable. Confronted by the circumstances, the Vienna healthcare politicians invited me as a person to apply for the position of Head of the Semmelweis Gynecological Hospital of the City of Vienna. Assignment: realization of a similar care concept within the framework of a public hospital. In “my” clinic at that time a model of a personal birth and puerperal care for pregnant women was already established. This was considered to be a good prerequisite for the development of a larger and more comprehensive concept. After the end of my period in office I was commissioned by the management of the Vienna Hospital Institutions with the evaluation of the data. The aim: implementation in the new hospital Klinik Floridsdorf currently being planned.
