Erwartungen der Generation Z an Lehr- und Prüfungsmethoden im österreichischen Medizinstudium

As part of a “Summer School”, organised by the Austrian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ÖGGH), medical students, most of them in their final year of study, were asked about teaching, learning and examination methods as well as professional image. Austrian students, most of whom belong to Generation Z (born between 1995 and 2009), prefer face-to-face teaching to online teaching, ask for electronic learning materials, preparation videos and case discussions in seminars and problem-oriented learning (POL) groups. Oral examinations are favoured over written examination formats. The courses, teaching methods and examination types favoured by students are subject to generational change. Academic teaching staff in general and curriculum managers in particular should be aware of these preferences.
