Advancements in biocompatibility and mechanical behaviour of wire arc additive manufacturing for biomedical applications

Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) has come a long way, both in terms of the process itself and the mechanical features of the metal components it produces, due to the capacity to mass production with fast deposition rates. Due to its expansion, a more diverse range of materials is now utilized in WAAM's operations. Along with a survey of what is currently known about WAAM processes and the most common metallic feedstock materials, this article gives a detailed description on the material properties of deposited components. Components of WAAMs manufactured from different metals often exhibit defects such as deformation, porosity, and cracking. The article delves into ways to enhance the fabrication quality of additively made components by considering the specific needs of different alloys. According to the findings, there are several obstacles to the widespread use of WAAM and these require material-specific solutions and have an operating system in a reasonable amount of time. In order to ensure that deposited components are both structurally robust and free of defects, it will be essential to continue integrating materials and production processes. Its potential as a surgical implant has been bolstered by studies into its biocompatibility and antimicrobial properties.
