Optimization of fiber length, loading and its influence on overall characteristics of Licuala Grandis peduncle fiber/polyester biocomposites for low density applications

摘要

Natural fibers are given due importance these days to be castoff as augmentation material in composite processing as a substitute of synthetic fibers inspite of its better mechanical characteristics. The thermal, mechanical, morphology and water captivation characteristics of Licuala Grandis Peduncle Fibers strengthened in an unsaturated polyester resin matrix bio-composite have been examined in this study in relation to the possessions of fiber content in terms of weight% and length. Highest mechanical features were shown by the bio-composite containing 30 weight% and 5 mm long Licuala Grandis Peduncle Fiber, with comparable tensile parameters. Additionally, the bio-composite sample’s tensile, flexural, hardness, and impact parameters were all enhanced by the increase in length of the Licuala Grandis Peduncle Fiber augmentation till 15 mm. To confirm the bio-composite’s viability for use in industry, the X-ray diffraction spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectra, and scanning electron microscopy pictures were observed. The bio-composite sample’s adequate hydrophobicity, reduced density, and heat durability, attained via right loading and length of LGPF augmentation, make them ideal for use in aircraft and automotive furnishings.
