Performance evaluation of low heat loss piston engine fuelled with acetylene and cottonseed biodiesel

摘要

Biomass is the principal replacement for diesel fuel as they are inexhaustible in quantity. In this research, cottonseed biodiesel was employed as substituted fuel for fossil diesel, as India is second manufacturer of Cottonseed oil in the world. In present research, Acetylene gas inaugurated by port injection and cottonseed biodiesel combined with optimum quantity (15%) diethyl ether (DEE) was implanted into the engine in traditional manner. The effects of different engine brake power (BP) attitudes on brake thermal efficiency, exhaust gas temperature, coolant load, and volumetric efficiency of all of which have been influenced by different BP attitudes have investigated. Particulate matter emissions, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and unburned hydrocarbons were measured at different engine BP values. As the engine was operating at maximum load, the combustion characteristics when the engine was operating at peak pressure were evaluated. Performance parameters, pollution levels and combustion parameters ameliorated with acetylene-cottonseed biodiesel operation on LHR engine. The results revealed that the highest induction of acetylene gas was 45% with an LHR engine and 35% with a conventional engine (CE) and in CE, the ideal injection time was 30o bTDC (before top dead center), while with an LHR engine, it was 29o bTDC.
