Behavior of elliptical bearing with micropolar fluid: influence of ellipticity parameters

摘要

Present work investigates the effect of ellipticity and dam parameters on the stability of elliptical dam bearing. The Reynolds equation for micropolar lubricant flow in the clearance space is solved with the finite element method. The hydrodynamic pressure obtained from the Reynolds equation is used to compute the bearing load and stability parameters, such as critical mass, threshold speed and whirl frequency. It is observed that stability in terms of critical mass, threshold speed and whirling frequency increases with an increase in ellipticity and dam width especially, at higher micropolarity of lubricant.
