摘要

This study explores the evolving relationship between transportation planning (TP) and the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs), with a focus on the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Metaverse. Grounded in Systems Theory (ST), the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), and Resilience Theory (RT), this research conceptualizes TP as a complex, adaptive system enhanced by emerging technologies. AI facilitates real-time data analysis, predictive modeling, and optimization in TP processes, while the Metaverse offers immersive platforms for stakeholder engagement, simulation-based scenario testing, and participatory decision-making. Through a comprehensive meta-analysis of 31 empirical studies using the Hunter-Schmidt method, this paper quantifies the impact of TP on key SDGs—particularly in areas of climate action, sustainable cities, and economic growth. Results indicate that integrating AI and Metaverse-based tools into TP improves system efficiency and resilience and enhances behavioral alignment and policy responsiveness. The findings provide actionable insights for policymakers, emphasizing the need for technology-driven, inclusive, and adaptive planning frameworks to meet sustainability targets. This study contributes a novel empirical and theoretical foundation for leveraging digital transformation in the transportation sector to achieve global development goals.
