A comparative analysis of operational planning for battery swapping and fast charging in electric vehicles

Development of electric vehicles (EVs) is currently focus of the automotive industry. EV development is feasible due to the development of high energy density and fast charging battery technologies. However, popularity of EV usage is still limited by concerns regarding safety, range anxiety and long charging time, which are related to the battery. To overcome these challenges, battery swapping methods have been proposed and discussed in the literature. This work reviews the literature and commonly reported practices on different battery swapping techniques. It discusses associated benefits and challenges from perspective of the customers, vehicle manufacturers, battery manufacturers and service providers. This paper also proposes a framework for managing battery swapping process with expected technological and management challenges with further research requirements. The proposed novel idea can be utilized as futuristic framework giving safe and reliable energy management for EVs.
