<p>The forest optimization algorithm (FOA) is one of the meta-heuristic algorithms that are based on the growth and developmental processes in forests: trees. One of them is a simulation of more kinds of tree activities, such as seed dispersal, tree growth, and tree struggle for fundamental requirements for their existence like light and nutrients. FOA is utilized to find the most suitable solution out of all the available ones for an optimization issue as all trees in a forest need to grow that they remain healthy in optimal conditions. FOA helps find the most energy-efficient paths for data to travel across the IoT devices. The objective of the work is twofold. Initially, we have deployed the FOA in IoT network. Secondly, we have integrated this into disaster management sensor network (DMSN). This help to communicate the emergency data efficiently and accurately to the helping unit during disaster management. The simulation results shows the FOA based optimization outperforms then the existing meta-heuristic routing algorithms like Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization.</p>
