Equivalent translation of cultural words for local cultural tourism and product communication

The compatibility of the translator’s version of the content reflects the author’s communicative intent or literary goal is called equivalence of translation. The research investigates and selects equivalent translations for English, Thai, and Lao words to develop local cultural tourism and product communication in a community with the integration of Thai and Laos cultures. The analysis of translation equivalent pairs was conducted using a bi-directional translation method, leveraging native speakers of each language as informants. This investigation resulted in the identification of 290 pairs of culturally significant words. The results are used to develop local cultural tourism communication and social media. There are local food and desserts, clothes, local products, cultural attractions, and cultural activities. Then, these translated words were used to describe the products and services related to local cultural tourism in social media. Multilingual social media was developed using the process of a focus group of local representatives to study and analysis of the need for communication for cultural tourism, and developing social media to communicate for cultural tourism. This study comprehensively analyzes translation equivalence in three languages, creating a valuable resource for cultural tourism marketing and communication strategies. Identifying culturally significant word pairs enhances understanding and appreciation of local traditions. The research introduces a novel framework for integrating multilingual communication in cultural tourism and products, highlighting the significance of cultural translation in promoting local identity and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
