Evaluation of a 3-DOF helicopter dynamic control model using FOPID controller-based three optimization algorithms

This paper discusses the performance comparison of three advanced AI methodologies, namely: Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO), Hybrid Sperm Swarm Optimization Gravitational Search Algorithm (HSSOGSA), and Hybrid Grey Wolf Optimization Particle Swarm Optimization (HGWOPSO). These are considered for tuning a FOPID controller of the 3-DOF Helicopter System. It is an optimization problem in which critical control parameters regulated are Kp, Ki, Kd, and fractional orders λ and µ, which are directly related to influencing the pitch, roll, and yaw dynamics of the helicopter. Among all the compared algorithms, the HHO algorithm outperforms other algorithms for a trade-off between the control parameters for better stability, quick response, and good flight dynamics. However, much reliance on a simulation-based approach with a limited view of algorithms requires further research.
