Preliminary exploration of the function of the grooved-shaped stone axe (hammer) of the Yueshi culture
摘要
The Yueshi Culture is an archaeological Culture of the Bronze Age in the Haidai region. As one of the representative artifacts of the Yueshi Culture, the grooved-shaped stone axe has long been regarded by the academia as an agricultural production tool or weapon. Through sorting and comparison of the grooved-shaped stone axes (hammers) and mining-related remains in the Yueshi Culture, this paper finds that their shapes and macroscopic damages are similar to those of the grooved-shaped stone hammers, which are specialized mining tools. It is believed that the grooved-shaped stone axes are closely related to mining activities, providing new materials for the study of the technological chain of the bronze casting industry in the Yueshi Culture.
