Establishment and application of the lithic technology strategy selection model for Late Paleolithic

Analyzing lithic technology constitutes a central focus in Paleolithic archaeological research. The concept of the chaîne opératoire provides a comprehensive theoretical framework that guides diverse approaches to technological analysis. Building upon this concept, this study proposes the Lithic Technology Strategy Selection Model (LTSSM) for the Late Paleolithic period. The LTSSM aims to elucidate the representations and motivations underlying lithic technological behaviors by revealing their internal logic. It offers a theoretical basis for dynamically analyzing technological processes, deconstructing production sequences, and exploring cognitive dimensions of tool-making. The model is applicable not only to microlithic technologies but can also be extended to blade and Levallois technologies. By transcending the constraints of static typological analysis, the LTSSM integrates cognition and behavior, thereby uncovering the underlying logic of human technological choices. This framework provides a novel paradigm for investigating social organization and behavioral patterns, and for deepening our understanding of the principles governing technological and cultural evolution.
